The House of Representatives passed a bill that links the murder of Laken Riley to the Biden administration's open border policies, empowering states to sue the federal government for harm allegedly caused by illegal immigration.
The suspect accused of murdering Laken Riley on the University of Georgia's campus was found guilty by a judge on all charges Wednesday, including malice murder and felony murder. House Speaker Mike Johnson connected the case to the Biden administration's immigration policies, stating that Laken Riley was brutally murdered by an illegal alien that President Biden and the Democrats let into this country with their open border policy.
He criticized House Democrats for voting against deporting illegal aliens who commit violent crimes against American citizens. Reintroduced by Georgia Rep. Mike Collins, the legislation blames Riley's death on the Biden administration's open-border policies and empowers attorneys general to sue the federal government if they demonstrate states are harmed by the failure to implement national immigration policies. It also allows states to sue the Department of Homeland Security for harm allegedly caused to citizens due to illegal immigration. Johnson argued that President Biden's response to Riley's death was inadequate, only offering an apology for calling her murderer an illegal.
