Throwing a wrench into this whole thing is the fact that Rhaenys has little reason not to believe that Rhaenyra and Daemon had Laenor killed so they could get married. Why is a competing Driftwood claim even being made if Corlys was vocal about his intended heir, he wonders aloud, directly exposing Otto and Alicent for their machinations.
Rhaenys fully adopts this plan when answering to Viserys, shocking Rhaenyra and everyone in attendance, including the Hightowers.Now, with ever more cousin weddings on the books — stepbrothers and stepsisters, really — both crowns are completely under the purview of Rhaenyra and Daemon’s family and children.Rhaenyra thinks she's walking into the lion's den in King's Landing, but her plans work better than they should.
“Set aside your grievances, if not for the sake of the crown, then for the sake of this old man who loves you, dearly,” he tells them.
