Ranking House of Representatives members welcomed on Monday China’s reported willingness to prioritize sharing its prospective COVID-19 vaccine to the Philippines, but said such benefit shouldn’t come with any “strings.”“We welcome any assistance especially if it would promote the health of the public in this pandemic, [which is] taking a big toll on the country economically,” Quezon City 2nd district Rep. Precious Hipolito Castelo said.

Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers also hailed the pledge from China, which has claimed to be a frontrunner-country in the development of a vaccine for the new coronavirus. “Our country’s pivot to China should have a good return and a big advantage to the nation politically, economically, and socially. Otherwise, it will just be in vain,” he said. The solon further said that China needs to “strengthen [its] relationship with neighbors by doing a lot of goodwill, especially on this scale.”
