The privatization of the EDSA Bus Carousel should translate to efficient and affordable services, House transportation panel chairperson Romeo Acop said Friday.

to streamline its operations.“The buses are already owned by private companies. It is in the infrastructure part where the government should step in. Before proceeding, they should have a very good feasibility study, and the terms of reference should be established clearly,” Acop said in a phone interview with GMA News Online.

“If you look at those GOCCs, they are not earning much, and they are being subsidized by the government. Our government is cash strapped, so we must look for ways to provide infrastructure that is efficient, accessible and affordable,” Acop said. "What commuters need now is some relief due to the runaway high inflation. An extension at least of the free rides would be most welcome and not this planned privatization," Castro said in a separate statement.
