Gibson girl summer? In this vintage photo taken between 1900 and 1905, women in classic Edwardian fashion have been captured in time as they feed swans on the lake in San Pedro Park . The photo belongs to UTSA Libraries' Digital Collections archive, which is dedicated to preserving “the legacies of San Antonio and South Texas ” through their “collection of rare books, personal papers, photographs, and other one-of-a-kind primary resources.
In this photo, the two San Antonio women can be seen wearing the style of the era as they float alongside the swans in San Pedro Park. The style was also popular amid the movement for women’s suffrage in the late 19th and early 20th century. During this time, women’s fashion evolved to accommodate expanded movement, both physically, academically and politically.
