PETALING JAYA: China have an extra reason to win the Sudirman Cup again.

The world mixed team competition scheduled from May 14-21 in Suzhou will be the first major event held in China since 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic created chaos in the world.

Hosts and defending champions China are the most successful team in Sudirman Cup history, having won it 12 times since the inaugural event in 1989.“This is the first major tournament to be held in China after the pandemic, and we are hoping that we can play a great game. We are as excited as our fans,” said Yaqiong on the Badminton World Federation website.

Said Siwei: “ We are confident about China’s strengths going into the event on home turf. We are still very competitive and confident in each individual event to beat any opponent. “All we have to do is to get our precious point for the team. We certainly hope very much to win this valuable title in China.”Indonesia and South Korea are the only teams apart from China, who have won the Cup. Indonesia won it once in 1989 while South Korea won it four times in 1991, 1993, 2003 and 2017. Group A: China, Denmark, Singapore, EgyptGroup D: Japan, South Korea, France, England
