Nottingham's hospitals will receive millions in government funding to pay for more patient beds. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital, will receive more than £9.8 million to help operate 24 new beds.
Hospitals in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire struggled to cope last winter as healthcare resources were strained. Two critical incidents were declared by Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust in December 2022, with the trust explaining it was finding it difficult to deal with the large number of people arriving at the Emergency Department suffering from respiratory conditions.
