"Florida finally asked the question and found taxpayers paid $566 million in one year. Nationally, the cost is already estimated at least $21 billion, and that may be the floor.
"Roy's bill will need to face scrutiny in Congress, through committee, House, and Senate hearings before it can become law. Congress is already handling immigration through much larger packages and appropriations measures, rather than standalone reporting bills, and even with Republicans controlling both chambers, many immigration bills introduced by individual members never receive a floor vote.
