Fuel shortages left the al-Shifa hospital without power, killing a premature baby and four patients in the intensive care unit, Gaza health officials said Saturday.
JERUSALEM — Hospitals in northern Gaza have turned into “a graveyard,” Mohammed Abu Mughaisib, deputy medical coordinator for Doctors Without Borders in Gaza , told The Washington Post Saturday. “Some of the patients started to die because of the lack of electricity for the ventilators. There aren’t enough doctors to treat everyone,” he said. “They are planning to bury patients in Shifa hospital because there is no space, there is no way to go out, ambulances cannot move anymore.
But on Saturday afternoon local time, he confirmed one MSF nurse and a driver were sheltering in place at al-Shifa Hospital amid ongoing Israeli shelling and airstrikes in the area. “They couldn’t move out because of the heavy bombing and strikes, so they are now in the hospital,” he said. “We have lost contact with them, but in the last two hours we know that they are still alive and they are stuck there.
