Scotland EditorA total of 1,330 Scots lost their lives due to drug misuse last year, official statistics have revealed, with the nation still having by far the highest death rate in Europe.when it hit 1,339 after rising for seven consecutive yearsIn 2020, the most recent year for which comparable data is available, Scotland’s drug misuse rate was 3.7 times that of the UK as a whole and higher than any other European country.
This was followed by Glasgow at 44.4 per 100,000 and Inverclyde at 35.7 per 100,000. In 93 per cent of all drug misuse deaths, more than one substance was found present in the body.
