As I was getting more involved in the organizing around the Trans Day of Action, I kept hearing about how a trans woman named Sylvia Rivera had lived in an encampment on the Christopher Street pier in the mid-90s, and how she was supportive of the young people organizing against police surveillance and resident antagonism in 2000.
