There have been multiple attempts to adapt Dungeons & Dragons over the years, with it appearing as everything from a big-screen movie to a joke in Futurama.

Dungeons & Dragons Silliest Tropes Can Make It A Better Movie While implementing Dungeons & Dragons style character cloning in Honor Among Thieves might cheapen the idea of death, it would be in keeping with the tone of the movie. Trailers have shown an appropriately irreverent note, and it seems that everyone involved is having fun. By having a dead character’s identical twin appear, Honor Among Thieves can keep that comedic tone light while still having deadly situations.
Moreover, using this sort of replacement character in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves can show that the writers truly understand their source material and how the players have traditionally engaged with it. While it is strange that Honor Among Thieves is skipping the easy story framing device of having the characters represent real-world players, there are already some lore-deep cuts in the trailer, and viewers will want to see their own relationship to the game play out on screen.
