Hong Kong Will Tighten Covid Rules Despite No Local Outbreaks To Improve Chances Of Quarantine Free Travel With China

The move would eliminate special arrangements that were put in place for various categories of people including diplomats, directors of public companies, airline crew, scientific researchers, among others.

The city is also expanding its contact tracing efforts by enforcing the use of its “LeaveHomeSafe” app in government buildings to keep a record of incoming and outgoing visitors, the Associated PressHong Kong leader Carrie Lam said the rules were being tightened to bring them “more in line with mainland practices” which she believes will give Chinese authorities confidence to allow quarantine free travel between the city and the mainland.

The stringent rules are being put in place despite the fact that Hong Kong has faced no major local outbreak since the start of this year.Earlier this week, a financial industry group raised alarm about Hong Kong’s embrace of a zero-Covid policy and its strict quarantine requirements for international travelers, warning that it could undermine the city’s status as a financial hub.
