China's new national security law in Hong Kong is a gut punch to the city's freedoms. It could mark the end of Hong Kong as we know it.

"To be honest, I cannot imagine the future of Hong Kong now," she said. "I believe the pro-democracy movement will still continue, yet I think it will soon be minimal." "I'm quite optimistic about Hong Kong's future because we've seen that people are willing to come out and change society and join in this social movement," Cheng said. "Hong Kong's future does not depend on Hong Kong [geography], but rather it depends on the people. And the hope is in the people."

"The more the Chinese government does, the more they provoke people of Hong Kong," Benjamin said. "They thought they could use fear to drive us out, but it will only create more anger."
