Honda has showcased its new battery-electric Honda Zero prototypes, the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon, at CES 2023. These vehicles are set for production in 2026 and will feature Honda's innovative Asimo operating system.

At CES in Las Vegas today, Honda unveiled its highly anticipated new battery-electric Honda Zero prototypes. The first is an SUV based on its Space-Hub concept, called the Honda 0 SUV . The second is a sedan based on its Saloon concept, called the Honda 0 Saloon. Honda states that these two new EVs will enter production sometime in 2026. Further adding to the excitement, these vehicles will be the first to feature the automaker’s newly developed in-house Asimo operating system.

While concepts and prototypes can be difficult to judge as they often prioritize design over final production, the Honda 0 SUV appears reminiscent of an '80s-era dustbuster combined with a Volvo EX30, and the Honda 0 Saloon resembles an anteater. However, in person, both models look more refined than anticipated. The SUV, in particular, seems closer to a final production model and boasts a unique rear cargo opening with two fold-down tables on each side. The Honda 0 Saloon exhibits a sleeker design while still maintaining similarities to the Saloon concept showcased in 2024. Honda has toned down the concept by replacing the gull wing-style doors with more conventional ones. A set of retro-style headlights open with a blinking effect, reminiscent of Lamborghini Countach designs from the '80s. The design evokes a distinct sense of nostalgia. When the Saloon's doors are open, the yoke-style steering wheel rotates to allow the driver to effortlessly slide into the low-slung seat without obstruction. Once the doors are closed, the yoke rotates back down. This functionality is made possible by the Zero platform's drive-by-wire technology (in the SUV, the yoke remains stationary). Both interiors still appear highly prototyped, featuring a dashboard-sized screen spanning from pillar to pillar. This design echoes the upcoming Afeela EV, a joint venture between Honda and Sony, which also received a formal unveiling this week
