O’Connor uses long ball to beat Brennan, advance to regional softball semifinals
O’Connor Savannah Popp slides safely into home as the ball get past Brennan catcher Ava Sanchez early on, as they each connected on two run homers in first inning to put the Panthers up 4-0.
Gonzales, the third batter in O’Connor’s order, hit the first pitch she saw from Brennan pitcher Chloe Booth over the center-field wall to give the Panthers the quick 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Sanchez hit her blast over the left-field wall. “Ella and A.J. , they’re consistent and steady and they work hard. They’re some of the best hitters in this area and I’m happy that they are Panthers,” Bollier said.
O’Connor put the game away with five runs in the third inning, batting around the order. RBI singles from Dominguez, Sammie Portillo and Ella Salinas pushed the Panthers’ lead to 8-3, with Portillo’s hit driving in two runs.
