Homeless man was 'an hour from death' after stranger stabbed him in the neck in terrifying attack
Lee Hart, 39, has been jailed for life for the terrifying attack on Mark Wilkinson at a house in Burnley. Mr Wilkinson's injury was so severe, doctors feared he would die from blood loss if they did not operate immediately.
Mr Wilkinson invited Hart to sit with them, saying: “I think you’re a sound guy”, but Hart accused the men of talking about him and threatened to stab Mr Wilkinson. Mr Wilksinson and Mr Crilly ran into the street, pressing his jumper against the injury. "Blood was still spurting from his neck", Mr Bassano said. Mr Wilkinson was becoming weaker as a result of the blood he had lost but managed to flag down a passing car and call for an ambulance.
As a result of the attack he now has a raised scar to his neck and suffered psychological trauma which has made him more vulnerable. However he later pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding and appeared before Judge Heather Lloyd to be sentenced.
