Located on the river Ouse, three miles from York, Bert May founder Lee Thornley’s stylish family home combines his commitment to fine materials and excellent craftsmanship. Built in 1650 as a collection of small cottages, the house has now been transformed into a family home where Lee lives with his two daughters, Iris and Lyla, and his partner, Phil. The palette of earthy tones set against natural terracotta, lime wash and wood creates a wonderful connection between the inside and outside.
The brushed bronze Samuel Heath tap adds a layer of texture to the kitchen. The splashback, which extends across the entire wall behind the kitchen units, is tiled in Clear Glazed Bejmat tiles. The result is a warm and sophisticated room, in muted, earthy tones. The cosy snugLee’s approach throughout the house was to restore its beautiful features. Lime wash paints from Bauwerk and neutral, raw tones used in the snug allow the revealed beams and flooring to take centre stage.
