You have been warned
If you're thinking about doing some DIY around the house, there is one particular job you should avoid. Certain work in some rooms is actually illegal and can leave you at risk of a £5,000 - and even potentially unable to sell your home.
An electrician has urged people to be aware of the UK Building Regulations, specifically Part P, which relates to electrical safety in homes. DIY electrical work in designated "special locations" - which can include bathroom or kitchen areas - is not allowed under the regulations. Not only is it dangerous, but you can you be fined for it - and failing to have the appropriate certification for certain electric work could make it difficult to sell your home, reports NorthWalesLive. MyJobQuote electrical expert John McCallister told the Metro: "It's important to remember that Part P of the UK Building Regulations make it illegal to carry out DIY electrics in the bathroom or kitchen.
The regulations state that electrical installation work in a home must be designed and installed to protect people from fire and electric shocks. Part P applies to any changes made to existing installations, including any parts that have been rewired. Electrical Safety First also warns: "Electrical installation work must be carried out only by people who have the knowledge, skill and experience needed to avoid any danger to themselves and others."
