The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has placed Unicorn Healthcare Services, a private home care provider in North East Lincolnshire, into special measures following an inadequate rating. The CQC conducted an inspection in October and November after receiving concerns from users and their families regarding the service.
These concerns included inadequate staff training and experience, medication administration errors, missed appointments, and a failure to implement appropriate actions during incidents. Inspectors also observed instances where staff did not wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), potentially exposing service users to infections. The CQC issued a warning notice to company management, demanding significant improvements in service management. Alan Stephenson, CQC deputy director of operations in the north, stated that the inspection revealed poor leadership at Unicorn Healthcare Services, placing individuals at risk of unsafe care. He emphasized the urgency for the service to rectify these issues and assured that the CQC would utilize its regulatory powers if necessary to ensure service users receive the care they deserve.
