Tom Homan, the 'border czar,' warns that Mexican cartels would be foolish to attack U.S. troops on the southern border, as President Trump would not hesitate to deploy the military in response. He asserts that cartels are making record profits but that the government is taking measures to disrupt their operations.
Tom Homan , known as the 'border czar,' stated that President Donald Trump would not hesitate to deploy the U.S. military if Mexican cartels target American troops stationed on the southern border. Homan expressed his belief that the cartels would be unwise to confront the U.S. military, but acknowledged their history of engaging with the Mexican military.
He stated, 'We're taking money out of their pocket' referring to the government's efforts to secure the border and disrupt cartel operations. He warned that any harm inflicted upon U.S. soldiers would trigger a forceful response, stating, 'The wrath of President Trump's going to come down.'\On his first day in office, President Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, allowing for the deployment of armed forces to the region. He also signed an executive order classifying drug cartels and other criminal organizations as foreign terrorist organizations or specifically designated global terrorists. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been conducting nationwide raids to apprehend undocumented migrants for deportation, a key element of the Trump administration's stringent immigration policies. \Homan asserted that approximately three-quarters, or 76%, of the 14,000 migrants arrested thus far are criminals. He explained that collateral arrests occur when authorities are pursuing a specific individual and locate others associated with them. Homan emphasized that there is no daily quota for arresting undocumented migrants, stating his desire to apprehend as many as possible. He clarified that while no one is off-limits, undocumented migrants are not a top priority for enforcement. Regarding the repatriation of families to potentially dangerous countries, Homan questioned, 'What country is dangerous?' He acknowledged that many migrants originate from nations like Haiti and Venezuela, which carry the State Department's highest 'do not travel' warnings due to widespread violence. Homan stressed the true meaning of asylum, defining it as seeking refuge from fear and persecution by one's home government due to factors such as race, religion, political affiliation, or membership in a specific social group. He argued that numerous 'fraudulent' asylum claims have overwhelmed the system, pushing legitimate asylum seekers to the sidelines. He clarified that individuals seeking asylum should not enter the country illegally, but instead should proceed to a designated port of entry
