A Holocaust Remembrance drew a large crowd to the Governor's Reception Room on Monday for this annual observance that comes at a time when antisemiticism is on the rise in this nation.
The words “never again” is heard frequently during annual observances of the Holocaust Remembrance Day – and it was said several times during Monday’s well-attended Civic Commemoration of the Holocaust at the Pennsylvania Capitol.those who spoke at the ceremony in the Governor’s Reception room impressed on the crowd that a reminder of the more than 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis in World War II is needed now more than ever.
“Most survivors of the Holocaust have passed away,” Frankel said. “If they were here, they would tell us about the windows smashed 85 years ago. They would tell you about the escalating cruelties suffered by children walking through their business districts in the 1930s. And they would warn those who oppose diversity and tolerance will take any opportunity to spread hatred. We observe Yom HaShoah every year for exactly this reason. Because the Holocaust did not start with violence.
“As someone who was Jewish and is living in the United States, I can easily understand why people deny the Holocaust,” she said. “It’s because they have never been educated properly about it.”“For some it may be easier to simply look away, to question whether it happened as it’s written in the history books or whether it happened at all,” he said. “Some say that is happened a long time ago. the world has changed.
