Aussie superstar Paul Hogan says Margot Robbie is a victim of the “dull tradition” of The Academy ignoring lighthearted films during awards season, after she was snubbed for an Oscar nomination. On Sunrise on Friday, the Crocodile Dundee star was interviewed by his granddaughter Mylee Hogan, who asked him about both the Aussie actor and Barbie director, Greta Gerwig, missing out on a nod.
Paul Hogan speaks about Oscar snub of Margot Robbie for Barbie In February, news that Robbie and Gerwig were both snubbed in their respective Oscar categories of leading actress and best director sparked outrage online. Barbie holds the record as the only film directed by a woman to earn more than $1 billion at the box office. “To see them not nominated, that’s a sort of like ... a dull tradition of ‘if it’s not about pain and suffering, it can’t be very good’. It’s not fair,” Hogan said.
