A new entertainment production facility, CVEC, will share space with the city's newest library and San Diego State University in Chula Vista, bringing significant economic impact and revitalizing the film industry in San Diego.
San Diego State University and the Chula Vista Entertainment Complex (CVEC) are expected to share space with the city's newest public library in Chula Vista. CVEC Founder and CEO Aaron David Roberts described it as an extensive entertainment production facility, calling it 'Hollywood 2.0 in Chula Vista.' Roberts said it will feature state-of-the-art virtual production technology, creating a more immersive experience for actors. 'They don't have to imagine what's behind them,' he explained.
Roberts estimated an over $544 million economic impact to the region over the first 10 years of operation. Chula Vista Assistant City Manager Tiffany Allen expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating it would bring a new industry to South Bay and revive the film industry in San Diego. The CVEC will occupy the top two floors of the new five-story Millenia Library building, while the middle two floors will house Chula Vista's first new public library in 30 years. San Diego State University will also utilize the bottom floor for its expanding nursing program. Allen highlighted the partnership as a testament to Chula Vista's transformation from a bedroom community to an economic powerhouse. Roberts revealed that CVEC is investing roughly $85 million into the two library floors and a studio across the street, with the studio anticipated to be ready for production by 2027
