We spoke with Mother, May I? producer and star hollandroden to discuss the psychological horror movie, making her producer debut, the challenges of playing a dual role and her excitement for working with kylegallner
A mother's love is just as potent after death, as seen in Mother, May I?. The psychological horror movie centers on couple Emmett and Anya as they travel to the former's childhood home to sell it following his estranged mother's death, though after ingesting some mushrooms, dark secrets and trauma are dredged up for a haunting and emotional rollercoaster.
Holland Roden Talks Mother, May I? Screen Rant: First and foremost, I wanted to say congratulations on this movie, I watched it the other day and was just blown away. I love to see that you got to be both a producer and a star on this one. So in the mention of vulnerability, there really has to be a level of trust both with your director and with your co-stars in being able to go to those depths. How did you go about fostering those relationships with both Laurence and Kyle Gallner both prior to and during production to be able to explore those layers?
I love that you got to have that experience, I've had the luck to talk with Kyle before, and you're right, he's totally down to earth, great human being. It definitely kept me guessing for most of the movie, I remember the scene in particular, in which Emmett falls asleep with you, when you're still the mother, and you start crying, I was like, "Ooh, is that a sign that it's actually her faking it?" It's a great back and forth.
Well, the homework really shows, because the film doesn't feel cheap in any means. It feels very ambitious and well-produced.
