As Two Rivers gets into the holiday spirit, the death of three-year-old Elijah Vue still weighs heavily.
TWO RIVERS --
So much so, that the community members who helped search for the young boy during the months when he was missing have started"To have organizations like this doing things where we can remember and honor Elijah's memory, it's great and we definitely want to partner behind that," said TRPD Capt. Andrew Raatz.The drive also accepts cash or check donations, which will benefit the Two Rivers Police Department's "Shop with a Cop" program.
While Elijah's death has shaken Two Rivers residents, this toy drive is yet another example of a community bringing out the best in one another in light of a heartbreaking event. "It was unbelievable the number of resources that came in to help us, whether it's other law enforcement agencies, citizens, private citizen groups," said Raatz. "So it was amazing to see this happen, and I think this toy drive is kind of an extension of that -- in the sense where, let's not forget about Elijah, let's not forget about the other children in our community also that are in need, and how can we help them this holiday season.
Anyone who wants to pitch in for the toy drive can drop items off at, or have their items shipped to, the Two Rivers Police Department by Dec. 15.
