Those rain chances are expected to continue into the holiday... with the risk of flash flooding in some areas. "It only takes a few inches of water to cause a problem or a hazard, so our main message is turn around, don't drown." Wes Rapaport with the Texas Department of Emergency Management says when it comes to rain, it's important to remain weather aware and have a plan. "Packing a kit of emergency supplies, making an emergency plan, staying informed, following directions from local officials..." While CBS Austin Chief Meteorologist Chikage Windler says this week will be nothing like the severe weather and flooding seen at the end of May. "This is a very different beast. Right now, in the summertime, we're dealing with leftover tropical moisture, which is causing all of our rain. We're not dealing with severe thunderstorms, no hail, no damaging winds, it's just rain." ]Windler says some areas could see up to five inches of rain. "When we get rain, we get too much rain. It's a help for the drought, but it can be, short-term, very flashy." ]"Give yourself a little extra distance, right? Make sure you're creating that extra space because the roads are going to be more slick in the rain.""A few inches of water can knock you off your feet, just six inches of water can sweep away a vehicle."The rain should be cleared out in time for fireworks. Just don't let your guard down.Stay Connected
