The development application for a proposed multi-purpose stadium in Hobart has been lodged, with construction expected to cost $60 million more than previously estimated.
The Macquarie Point Development Corporation says the stadium roof is an essential part of the design and will mean things like tall light towers are not needed. The Macquarie Point stadium's development application reveals the most detailed look yet at the proposed stadium and integration with the wider precinct.
The state government says it will still keep a cap on its contribution to the project at $375 million, with any shortfall needing to come from private sector investment. "So this is presented at $775 million, and that's for planning approval, and we'll work through a scoping of value management exercise to bring it to budget for delivery," Ms Beach said.
"If we were to look at an alternative without a roof, we would still require that solid annulus, and it would need to be a bit higher to get the weather protection for the drip zone across the seating bowl, and it would need to stretch out a bit further."
