HMRC highlighted that it will never include links to websites in its text messages
HM Revenue and Customs has issued a warning as it sends out texts to people still waiting for the £300 cost of living payment. People eligible for the payment, who receive tax credits and no other DWP benefits, are due to get the payment from a week today, November 10.
Today, HMRC confirmed that it is sending out text messages to people on tax credits about the payment, but warned that any messages containing links or asking for personal information are likely to be scams.Read more: DWP Universal Credit change could see £390 cut in benefits for people in 12 areas - including one Greater Manchester borough
It continued: "The text message will say the £300 Cost of Living Payment will be paid automatically between 10 November to 19 November 2023." It added: "Receiving the text message or having received a previous Cost of Living Payment does not guarantee eligibility for this one."
