John Hlophe's
appeal against the impeachable gross misconduct findings made against him has lapsed – as he fights for unlimited and unconditional taxpayer funding of that litigation in another potentially far-reaching court battle. Hlophe’s legal efforts to obtain untrammelled state funding of his litigation, which were imitated by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane in a failed direct access application to the Constitutional Court, appear to have stunted any possibility that he would face an impeachment vote in the National Assembly any time soon.
In response to questions from News24 about the status of Hlophe’s application to appeal the confirmation of the gross misconduct findings made against him in the Supreme Court of Appeal , Judicial Service Commission spokesperson Kutlwano Moretlwe stated:"As far as we know the appeal was removed from the roll."Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism.
