A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run collision in South Philadelphia on Christmas Day. Police are searching for the driver of a silver or tan four-door sedan who fled the scene after striking the victim.
Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian on Christmas Day in South Philadelphia . Crash investigators are working to identify a driver who they said is responsible for leaving the scene after hitting and killing a man in South Philadelphia . Police said several witnesses called 911 at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to report the hit-and-run on East Snyder Avenue near East Moyamensing Avenue.
'The vehicle is described as a four-door sedan, silver or tan in color and after striking the victim, left the scene,' said Chief Inspector Scott Small. Police said witnesses told them the victim was walking in the street when the speeding driver struck him head-on. There are bike lanes on both sides of the street, but it's unclear if he was walking in those lanes when the driver struck him. 'According to the witnesses, the victim was hit with such force that his body was launched about 50 feet in an eastbound direction,' Small said. 'He was hit with such force that he was knocked out of both of his sneakers.' Medics found the victim in the street with severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead roughly 10 minutes later, according to police. Investigators said they found pieces of the car in the road and will be working on gathering video from surrounding businesses in hopes of getting a better description. 'Crash investigators are processing the scene. They're going to talk to our witnesses and they're also going to try to identify the owners of these businesses and hopefully, the cameras recorded something that can help us with this fatal hit-and-run auto accident,' Small said.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS
