Nayef Aguerd and Noussair Mazraoui dropped out for the Atlas Lions, whereas the Portuguese named Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench yet again and recalled Ruben Neves ahead of William Carvalho.

Morocco, though, pushed ahead three minutes to halftime after Youssef En-Nesyri jumped high in the area and nodded in the roof of the net amidst a committed Diogo Costa. As the A Selecao turned attention to the bench and threw on Ronaldo for Neves and Joao Cancelo for Raphael Guerrero, the tempo shifted with Fernandes going over from outside the area.
