Fernandes appeared to ask to be substituted and pushed assistant referee Paul Adcock as United collapsed at the hands of Jurgen Klopp's side
Speaking after the game, Fernandes admitted that the second half was not good enough from United.
He said: “It’s a really bad result. The first half was really good from ourselves, but obviously the second half was not at our level. We gave too much space to them. We have to get back, we know how good we are. We know this team can do really good things.”and said:”Bruno Fernandes can wind you up sometimes because of the way he is, but that was appalling in the second half.”
“The rest of them didn’t show up. The whole back four was a disgrace. That can’t become the norm. That has to be put down as something we never see again.” Neville’s comments on Fernandes put into perspective the Portugal international’s underwhelming performance, and the push on the assistant referee Adcock was just one of several lows in the second half for him.
He had zero shots on target all game and created just one chance as Liverpool successfully blunted any potential threat.
