The legislation, known as the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, aims to address the lack of consistent oversight and licensing requirements across different states. Hilton, who shared her own experiences of abuse at a Utah facility in her memoir and a 2020 documentary, expressed immense pride in this achievement, stating it is the most meaningful work of her life.

Hilton’s effort to mandate more transparency in teenage crisis centers received unanimous support in the Senate. She appeared on Fox News’sto reveal that it will also likely pass the House thanks to Majority Leader Steve Scalise .

“This means the world to me. I feel so incredibly proud. I’m here to celebrate and I am just so grateful to everybody here in D.C. for helping making this happen to protect children,” Hilton said. “I’m so grateful I got a call yesterday from leader Scalise just so grateful to him and to all my sponsors.”wrote in her memoir

Hilton released a documentary in 2020 detailing the abuse she suffered at congregate-care facilities for troubled teenagers in Utah. Parents, the juvenile justice system, child welfare, mental health providers, and other groups sent teenagers to these facilities for treatment. The celebrity’s billionaire parents sent Hilton to four different facilities for her party lifestyle as a teenager.
