.HillaryClinton is taking a stand for Meghan Markle.
In a joint interview with her daughter Chelsea for London’s
, the former secretary of state admitted she was “a huge Meghan Markle fan.” When asked her thoughts on the Duchess’s recent lawsuit against a British tabloid—the—and its parent company, she first acknowledged that American and British laws are different. But then she didn’t mince words: “I do want to say that the way she’s been treated is inexplicable.”Chelsea Clinton weighed in too.
The interview comes weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their plans for legal action after they claim thepublished a private letter belonging to the Duchess. “My wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences,” Prince Harry wrote in a statement.
Previously, other high-profile figures have come to the Duchess’s defense against the tabloids. In February,said Markle was being “pursued and vilified” by the press. This summer, after the couple received blowback for their use of private jets, including one belonging to Elton John, the singer posted a statement on social media. “I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home,” he wrote.
