is interviewing for the open Atlanta Falcons general manager job. Matt Ryan came back into the organization to be the president of football operations for the Falcons, and he will oversee the general manager and new head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Weidl, who has been the team’s assistant general manager since after the 2022 NFL Draft, has been lauded for his approach to teambuilidng across the NFL. Weidl joined the Steelers after Omar Khan was hired as general manager and works heavily on scouting. Khan’s background is in cap management, so it would be helpful to have someone like Weidl who has a deep scouting background and knows the Steelers organization. The Mt. Lebanon native returned to his hometown to help build their team, and he has done that with a clear focus on strengthening the trenches first. He could help a Falcons team who has simply not taken the next step despite having some core pieces along their roster. How work in Philadelphia under Howie Roseman has drawn praise that made him an attractive candidate when the Steelers were doing their search.
