High winds close schools Tuesday in southeast county [Breaking]
Mountain Empire Unified School District in southeast San Diego County will close its eight schools Tuesday because of dangerously high winds.
Powerful winds can make travel to and from schools challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles such as school buses, states an announcement issued by the San Diego County Office of Education. The schools are Campo Elementary in Campo, Clover Flat Elementary in Boulevard, Descanso Elementary in Descanso, Potrero Elementary Dual Language Academy in Potrero, Camp Lockett Middle School in Campo, Pine Valley Middle School in Pine Valley, Mountain Empire Alternative Education in Pine Valley, and Mountain Empire High School in Pine Valley.
Valleys west of the mountains will see wind speeds over 30 mph and deserts could have gusts up to 50 mph Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Isolated gusts could near 70 mph in mountain passes.
