Soaring temperatures created a hazard on State Route 11 in Skagit County when the pavement buckled and created a potentially dangerous ridge for drivers.
This "heat heave" resulted in traffic having to alternate along SR 11 in Skagit County , but has since been repaired.
Forecasters said some areas around Puget Sound could approach 100 degrees on Monday, and road crews are monitoring for any additional issues. Roads can be built to better handle warmer temperatures, but that option comes with varying costs and tradeoffs.
