California's high-speed rail board approved the final environmental impact report for the train's proposed route from San Jose to San Francisco — a milestone that clears 420 miles of the train's 500-mile plan connecting the Bay Area to Los Angeles.

When traveling through less populated parts of the state, the train is expected to reach upwards of 220 mph.in 2015 in the Central Valley. But for the bullet train to fulfill its promise of connecting people throughout the state to higher-paying jobs, it will need to complete sections to major cities, including SF in the north and LA in the south.
