Running track may be just a sport for high school student s. But for Cole Stevens, a junior at Manheim Township High School in Lancaster County, it's a chance to inspire people to help others.Everything changed for the Stevens family on Sept. 15, 2022.Jamie Stevens, Cole's mom, underwent a medical procedure .'After that, she just stayed in the hospital. It was scary because not only did we lose our cross country coach, it was my mom,' Cole said.
I remember trying to plug my phone in because my phone was low on charge. And instead of plugging it in, I was wrapping the cord around it because that's how I thought I had to charge it,' she said.During her recovery, Jamie had no idea Cole was thinking of a way to raise awareness for her health scare: a track meet.'He put it out on social media that it was to benefit stroke. I had a little moment, I will admit. It's just the sweetest,' she said.
