The Holtville Bulldogs are on the hunt for another winning season this year after going 7-4 last year. The Bulldogs also welcome their new head coach Cory Lee who takes over the program after serving as the defensive coordinator at Pike Road last season. Before Pike Road, Lee also coached at Prattville, Pinson Valley where he was a part of a 6A state championship, and Baldwin County.
After taking the job and arriving on the scene in January, Lee saw somethings he wanted to change within the program, and he was also able to identify the talent he had within the program after watching a workout. “The first thing I noticed is we had some kids that moved well, some strong kids, so that was exciting from day one. We were able to build that, dive into it, start putting our mark on things, getting to build relationships with the kids, building relationships with the coaches,” explains Lee.
Lee also explains that as his team works their way through preseason and the season, their mantra is to stack days and continue improving one day at a time. Lee also mentioning that as they continue to live out that mantra, the foundation this team is build on is toughness and resiliency. “Even in our competitions this summer we’ve been in some adverse situations and, our kids, it doesn’t effect them. They just keep going, next play, next drive whatever it may be. That’s really exciting for me as the head coach that our kids don’t get effected too much by what’s going on or the adverse situation, they’re able to just stay calm, cool, collected,” says. Lee.
