The midseason return of High Potential sets a new viewership record, continuing the show's impressive run, as a season 2 renewal looms. The breakout ABC detective drama led by Kaitlin Olson returned in a new timeslot, Tuesdays at 9 PM EST, following the premiere of Will Trent season 3.
The episode, titled 'Obsessed', sees Olson's Morgan Gillory and the team essentially work to solve two connected cases as Morgan attempts to embrace a potential romance with Tom Flores (JD Pardo). It was a fairly subdued return for the series, in terms of story, but it had a big viewership impact. TVLine reports that the midseason return of High Potential season 1 reached a new series high of 5.7 million viewers. It wasn't alone in breaking new ground, as the Will Trent season 3 premiere also reached a viewership high of 5.9 million viewers. Both numbers are expected to rise significantly once delayed viewership and streaming numbers are added in, which speaks to the loyal viewership and the fact that a renewal announcement for the Olson-led series may only be a matter of time.
