Michael Pillarella received two prison sentences Friday that will be served consecutively — 17 years on a manslaughter charge and four more years on an assault by auto charge, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. Pillarella must serve at least 85% of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole, officials said.
Pillarella had three different drugs — alprazolam, methadone and fentanyl — as well as alcohol, in his system on Jan. 30, 2021 at 9:45 p.m. when he was speeding on Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor Township, authorities have said. Traveling at about 80 mph, he lost control of his 2017 Hyundai Elantra while attempting to navigate around a curve. His car crossed the centerline and slammed into an oncoming 2006 Toyota XB that had two teenage girls inside, the prosecutor’s office said.
