They are nominated for our community champions award alongside colleagues who helped in the aftermath of an explosion at a Glasgow takeaway.
“I’d been involved in helping with a cardiac arrest at Celtic Park as part of my volunteering with St Andrew's First Aid,” he says.
“I am very appreciative of the recognition for my part in saving this man’s life but it's important to remember that my colleagues provided life-saving treatment to many other patients that day and every day.” Courtney, who qualified 14 months ago, was inspired to become a paramedic after a loved one died in an accident five years ago.“It’s a really lovely feeling knowing you’ve made a genuine difference to people’s lives.”
Willie adds: “We did a quick risk assessment as we approached. The smoke had started to fill the shop so I quickly went in and got four people out. “We went into the close and tried to get as many people out of the flats before the fire took hold and the smoke became too bad,” adds Willie.“We decided to go for it,” says Willie.
