Heretic has crossed another major box office milestone during its run. Distributed by A24, the film tells the story of two Mormon missionary girls who happen upon the remote house of a seemingly amicable potential convert named Mr. Reed. Despite the man's seemingly jovial attitude, the young women soon realize that something far more sinister is afoot, as they become trapped in a test of wits and faith within the maze-like innards of Mr. Reed's house.

Movies typically need two to two-and-a-half times their budget in order to break even. Heretic was made on an estimated budget of around $10 million, setting its magic number at around $25 million. While the horror film has almost reached this total at the domestic box office alone, it has made $31.
Heretic's top 50 status is an achievement beyond the film itself. Heretic has become the third A24 movie to cross over into the top 50 films at the domestic box office in 2024. The other two movies were the well-reviewed political thriller Civil War, which currently sits at no. 24, and the aforementioned We Live in Time. Being among this elite group is a big deal for the independent distributor, as it means that their films are getting viewed at a much higher than they have in the past.
