A pastor at Chase Oaks Church writes about the decision to hire local artists to paint murals in Plano, Fairview and Sachse. Art is a public good and churches...
What gives a city its soul? The answer is true around the world and here in North Texas: the people and the things they create. Time tells the story of how simple plots of land turn into vibrant communities where the colors, scents and sounds are as unique as the people from which they come.
Like a mirrored reflection, public art captures these intergenerational stories and shares them back to us — to all of us. Art is a universal language, and unlike institutionalized forms, murals transcend socioeconomic boundaries and create community pride for everyone. But don’t just take my word for it.
In Plano, the artists were inspired by the idea that diversity is beautiful. The piece was crafted with elements and colors that honored Plano’s rich mix of people and culture. In Fairview, our artists took notice of the city’s commitment to raising the next generation of leaders, so the piece centers around a mother-and-daughter duo capturing that sentiment.
