It appears the University of North Carolina football head coach will not be considered for an NFL job anytime soon.
According to Pro Football Talk’s, the Bills and other teams are staying away from him based on off-the-field incidents that happened this past year at the University of North Carolina. “He’s currently regarded as radioactive by most NFL teams looking for coaches,” Florio said.
“He has only himself to blame, thanks to the bizarre distractions he created in North Carolina over the past year and his open hostility toward his long-time employer in New England. Any NFL owner who would be inclined to hire Belichick would have to assume that, eventually, some of that same venom will be directed to his next former team.” Belichick has been a head coach in the NFL for 29 seasons: five with the Cleveland Browns and, more notably, 24 with the New England Patriots. He won six Super Bowls with the Patriots. He has 333 wins, 14 short of Don Shula’s NFL record of 347. One of the distractions involved his girlfriend Jordon Hudson. Hudson, 24, became a media focal point after an April “CBS Sunday Morning” interview with Belichick, 73, during which she interjected herself into the conversation and prevented Belichick from answering questions about how they met and her role in his business dealings. However, it was disclosed that Hudson only helped deal with personal matters, including his book release media tour. The concerns about Hudson’s involvement in Belichick’s personal life led many people, including former New England Patriots players, to question whether Belichick was the right person to coach North Carolina. Those concerns were downplayed by the school’s chancellor, Lee Roberts, who said the impact Belichick had made on the program was significant. UNC has sold out its games for the upcoming season, especially boosting ticket sales. In his first season leading North Carolina, he finished with a 5-7 record, one game short of bowl eligibility.
