Two separate weak systems will bring light rain to the San Francisco Bay Area this week.
Storm clouds are seen over San Francisco in this view from Oakland, Calif., on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021. Heavy overnight rains in Northern California left two people dead in a submerged car as authorities on Thursday urged residents of several Southern California mountain and canyon communities to voluntarily leave their homes because of possible mud and debris flows.
"It's not as strong as what we saw in December," said Brooke Bingaman, a forecaster with the weather service."But the good news is we keep seeing these storms come through that keep adding to our total for the water year." The first system will push across the Bay Area Monday into Tuesday. Light rain fell over the coastal mountains of Sonoma County early Monday morning with showers expected to move south of the Golden Gate this afternoon.
The weather service is projecting small rainfall totals with this system: from 0.25 to 0.75 inch in the North Bay mountains and down into the Santa Cruz Mountains with isolated amounts potentially reaching 1 inch, a third of an inch in the the North Bay valleys and between 0.10 to 0.25 inch for areas around San Francisco.
Wednesday is expected to be cloudy and dry, before a second weak system arrives Thursday evening. The cold front will be similar to the one earlier in the week and bring mostly light rain that will continue into Friday morning.
