Here are tips to consider for choosing the executor of your estate, as well as the individuals charged with powers of attorney for your finances and medical care before you die.This is the person in charge of everything from filing your will with the court to paying off your debts, closing accounts and making sure your remaining assets are distributed as specified in your will.
"I usually recommend to clients that it's best to have one person in that role," Davis said. "There would be just one signature required instead of two [on documents], which can take longer and sometimes become cumbersome." Married couples generally name each other as executor. In those cases, be sure to consider the backup person carefully.
