Here's how Patrick Church turned a simple flat into a piece of art.
starting tomorrow. Church will be in the New York store tomorrow as well, customizing and hand-painting the flats for customers on-site. The slippers in the new collection are printed with his black-and-white painting “All Over You,” which, in Church’s words, “explores human connection and relationships.”
The motif for “All Over You” shows hollow-eyed faces alongside naked torsos outlined in thick black brushstrokes—Stephen Sprouse–ian imagery that the artist has explored in his past works. “It’s a never-ending pattern, but as you look closer, each figure’s experience is unique,” Church notes. “I personally find so much beauty in the interpretation of a common experience. This statement against such a timeless canvas, like the ballet flat from Repetto, just feels really natural.
Church goes on to say that working with Opening Ceremony also felt quite natural, considering the fact that the concept store was one of the first to pick up his first collection two years ago. Last year, they invited Church into the New York store for the first time to paint custom jeans—a precursor to the new project with Repetto.
